Dessa’s East Coast Arrival

Dessa, alongside an incredible lineup of multi-instrumentalists, took Brooklyn by storm last night.

The Music Hall of Williamsburg exuded an unusual sort of calm as the audience swayed, laughed and rejoiced at the literal music to their ears.

Pausing only to read unreleased poetry - and reminding the fan who snagged the sheet she read from not to post it quite yet - Dessa’s stage presence was like no other. A lead female vocalist, but a true writer - a narrator of life behind the mic, hitting the notes at every chord, every swoop of the harp. Knowing just when to step aside and allow Joshua Jelly on keys and saxophone, Aviva Jaye on the harp, and Lady Midnight on back-up vocals to shine.
